Marc Surer testes Race Runner BAB and BAS

In the framework of the season-start of the funracing.ch race-series the former Grand Prix pilot Marc Surer was occupied extensively with the tires of the Race Runner type.

Marc made his impressions available for us in a summarizing report:

BEBA Race Runner BAB

The result condensed: Altogether, I like the tire!  Above all in fast curves, I find the driving-behaviour very well! The tire requires a clean driving-style and a clean Setup.

Key facts:

Out tests did take place in Ondara/Spain.

Chassis: Corse, Motor: Swissauto 250, Diver: Marc Surer

At first, the best atmospheric pressure for us was determined. With the atmospheric pressure usual for the competition-products (1.8 bar warm) on our track in Ondara (Spain), the tire immediately had Grip, faded after two rounds through overheating, however. Atmospheric pressure under one bar is not usual on this track, therefore this not unusual that the tires doesn’t hit its optimum with different pressures under one. The atmospheric pressure determined best at the edge-conditions (outside-temperature 24 °C, asphalt-temperature 22 °C) for us was 1,4 bar warmly in front, which means a start-pressure of 1.2 bar in front and 1.1 bar at rear. At cold and dirty track, the tire requires 0.1 to 0.2 bar more (analogously to the competition-products).

Watch for the Setup: The tire has a comparable scope to homologated CIK products, look at the gear ratio and correct it if needed for this has a mayor meaning. The tire does not slide much, so you need a decent driving-style. If you keep the driving lane, the grip will be stable. In the first lap the grip is extremely good. After a short time it settles on a normally good level. Especially in fast curves, the tire is very solidly and the driving-behaviour is very good.

During race, the day-best time (only 0.08 sec. over the current lap record) was reached with the tire in the final-run after 11th lap, this fact describes the possibilities of the tire impressively

BEBA Race Runner BAS

The result in short: I am positively surprised!

The tire is “only" 0.2 sec. more slowly than the Race Runner BAB, despite the harder and clearly longer living tread. The tire also requires a clean driving-style and a clean Setup.

The harder tire is only 0.2 sec. more slowly; howsoever, the above described characteristics are even more distinctive. This was an extremely positive surprise. The transition from holding to sliding in very distinctive and you can’t get the easy squeak in the curves completely away, but that is not absolutely disturbingly. It also has this above described extra grip when setting off. Altogether the tire is a very good alternative for the hobby-driver.

With best regards,

Marc Surer
